年轻有为的股坛狙击手马奋（陈家乐 饰）身份神秘，行踪低调，在他的字典里，从来没有“失败”两字。故事由马奋遇上阿宝（李靖筠 饰）开始，彼此人生出现了戏剧性的变化！
阿宝从小到大都不相信好事会降临在自己身上，双亲早逝的阿宝，所有梦想对她而言都是遥不可及。阿宝身兼数职，在KTV当兼职。一晚马奋与公司高层职员在KTV贵宾房召开秘密会议，因马奋用钱打发了几位上前搭讪的性感女郎，阿宝以为马奋就是害她好姐妹Pauline自杀的情场骗子，于是上前指骂马奋，此时地下钱庄突然来到夜店找阿宝还钱，众人拉扯之间，阿宝手拉着马奋逃离现场。原来阿宝把马奋带到医院探望昏迷不醒的Pauline，Pauline大哥牛荣等人以为马奋是Pauline的男友，要他为妹妹自杀负责，牛荣认为只有马奋能唤醒Pauline，怕他逃之夭夭，决定强行把他带回家。
马奋与阿宝相处后，觉得这女子天真可爱。阿宝向马奋娓娓道来自己一段悲惨身世，她对命运逆来顺受的人生观让一直相信人定胜天的马奋听得不是滋味，马奋搬出深信不疑的“吸引力法则”来劝导阿宝要改变命运。
最后，阿宝等人终于知道马奋不是Pauline男友，马奋搬离阿宝家，并答应阿宝会再来找她。过了一个月，阿宝离家上班，发现门前停泊了一辆名贵房车，而名车的主人正是马奋，阿宝发现马奋竟是一个如假包换的有钱人！一个灰姑娘无端闯进有钱人世界的历险故事，现在才正式开始！

While fishing used to be a way of supporting oneself, wealthy London tourists have now descended and are displacing the locals, whose livelihood is thus threatened. The relationship between brothers Steven and Martin is also strained. Martin is a fisherman without a boat, since Steven started using it for far more lucrative tours for all the day-trippers. They’ve sold the family cottage and now it seems that the final battle to be fought is that with the new owners over the parking space next to the sea. Yet the situation soon gets out of hand, and not just because of the wheel clamp.Bait is a black-and-white film shot on hand-processed 16mm. Numerous close-ups of fish, nets, lobsters, wellington boots, knots and catch baskets bring to mind the theory of a montage of attractions. The depiction of the different social strata – one could speak of class relations – is also reminiscent of the tradition of social realism in British cinema. Above all, however, a whole lot of current political relevance is waiting to be discovered beneath the different layers of film historical references contained in the images.
