　　本片出自德国新浪潮电影代表人物之一，《铁皮鼓》导演沃尔克·施隆多夫之手，是一部向法国著名导演让·梅尔维尔致敬的经典作品。影片描写第一次世界大战期间，高贵的索菲女伯爵爱上了一位普通士兵，但动荡的时代，因为这段恋情却给两人带来了可怕的灾难，影片悲伤而凄凉，是导演沃尔克·施隆多夫除《铁皮鼓》以外，最被人认同的大师作品……

　　The tragic love story between Guido, the owner of a marble quarry and Luisa, the humble daughter of one of his employees, ends up in her giving birth to a baby boy. Giulio's mother is against them at first she takes her son abroad with an excuse and then has her grandson kidnapped making Luisa think the boy died in a fire.

　　Though Delluc's career was short-lived, it burst vigorously(7 films in 4 years)that it forever left its imprint on french cinema history, and they rightly honoured him by giving the annual Prix Delluc to the best French film of the year. He was responsible for the creation of influential cinema  journals like Le Journal du Ciné-Club and Cinéa, founding numerous film societies, writing countless articles and coining the term cineaste. Delluc believed that films should be set in the natural without elaborate posturing, and characters should be portrayed in an intimate way where the past and present, illusion and reality can be correlated, all considered to be avant-garde at its time. He died only a few weeks after the shooting of The Flood at the age of 33.

　　The main hero of the film is an electrician with a far greater effect on the people around him than his job defines. He is the last link in a huge energetic system and he becomes the binding bridge between the geopolitical problems of post-soviet space and the common people.　　The economic devastation of the country had an enormous impact on the industrial workers and yet despite the upheaval, these people did not seize to love and suffer, to have and be friends and to enjoy their lives… In particular our resilient electrician, who possesses a wonderful and open heart. He not only brings electric light (which is often out) to the lives of the inhabitants of this small city, but he also spreads the light of love, loyalty, life and mainly laughter.

　　阿兰．德龙主演的这部犯罪动作片，摒弃了一般银行抢劫后分赃不均而终被逮捕的老套情节，把劫宝的场面安排在飞机上进行，结局则是因家族内一次无意揭发的奸情而致西西里部落全被逮捕。影片布局可谓层次分明，有峰回路转之妙。从开幕西西里家族营救囚车中的萨丹开始，便推展出不少戏剧性的高潮，如阿兰．德龙如何外出召妓惹祸；保险公司随员的太太如何发现丈夫不在飞机上而在报警时认出阿兰．德龙；探长如何监视阿兰．德龙的妹妹而使西西里兄弟被捕等，这些设计都能顺里成章而前后呼应。

　　Veteran experimental filmmakers Danielle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub helmed this unusual adaptation of a novel by Elio Vittorini. Focused on the triumphs and failures of a group of laborers and farm hands who pooled their resources to operate an alternative collective farm after the end of World War II, Operai, Contadini features a cast of 12 actors who read aloud from Vittorini's book for the duration of the film, either reciting from memory or using a clearly visible script. Hardly designed to be a crowd pleaser, Operai, Contadini proved to be controversial among the audiences for its showings at the 2001 Cannes Film Festival, where it was screened as part of the Directors' Fortnight series. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide　　The group makes up a primitive community which seeks to erase not only the distress created by the war but also the hardships of life and hunger, and to protect them from violence, misery and fear. 　　The lines start with “O Somma Luce” which is the title of the film and also the 67th line of the 33rd canto in “Paradiso” of Dante’s “Divine Comedy” to the end of “Paradiso”.  The film is completed with music and lines instead of emotions and narrations.  This is a recent attempt to combine film with literature.　　The film begins with a black screen and the music of Edgard Varese. The BGM is “Deserts” that was recorded in 1954. After some moments of darkness, the music ends and a middle-aged man sits on a hill, reciting something. He is Giorgio Passerone, an Italian literature professor, and he is reading out of the last part of ‘Paradiso’ of Dante’s Divine Comedy. Jean-Marie Straub expressed how he thinks of Dante through a subtle accent and dialect. The director who had encoded many great artists and musicians including Bach, complete the combination of Dante and Varese, which could seem strange. (Lim Kyung Yong)

　　在中苏边境跑生意的俄罗斯人谢尔盖不但迷了路，自己的卡车还陷到了泥坑里。他茫然地爬上山头以求救援，却看见了蒙古人天葬的尸体，惊愕的奔跑中遇到了蒙古牧民贡巴。淳朴热情的贡巴把谢尔盖请到家中杀羊摆酒进行款待，并帮他解决了卡车的问题。 贡巴、妻子和他们的三个孩子象祖先一样过着传统的游牧生活，这种温馨自然的家庭生活让谢尔盖回想起自己远在故乡的亲人。不久，谢尔盖在城里的歌厅酒后闹事被警察带走，贡巴又托亲戚把他接了出来。最后，这两个民族不同、语言不通、生活习惯迥异的男人成了要好的朋友。 而贡巴也有自己的忧虑，他的妻子已生育了三个孩子，医生告诫她不要再生孩子，这件事愁坏了贡巴，为此他已经好几个月没能和妻子同房。一天晚上，城里长大的妻子告诉贡巴现在有种叫避孕套的东西可以解决这个问题，并叮嘱他进城买彩电时捎回几个。 在城里的药店里，贡巴感到格外尴尬，最终只好笑嘻嘻地走开。回家途中，贡巴在享用过城里的罐头和饮料后梦到了自己的祖先——成吉思汗……

A Macau millionaire is told a legend about someone who is willing to pay a huge sum for someone who would sleep with his wife in order to produce an heir. In an act to make the legend real and to immortalise it, the millionaire finds Jeanne Moreau to be his wife and starts to search for the man who would make love to her. A potent performance by Welles and Moreau makes the film purely magical; a Golden Berlin Bear nominee for Berlin International Film Festival.

　　Julien Duvivier最好的作品之一也是他认为自己所有默片中最喜欢的一部。　　Summary　　Bullied by his matriarchal mother, abused by his siblings, ignored by his father, Poil de Carotte's childhood is as miserable as it could be.  An illegitimate child, he is the main reason for the enmity which exists between his parents, who continue to live together just to keep up appearances. In the end, Poil de Carotte's suffering becomes more than he can bear...　　Review　　Drawing heavily on the poignant novel by Jules Renard on which it is based, Poil de carotte is a modest yet appealing film which has stood the test of time mainly because of the quality of its acting performances and its inherent humanity. It is more memorable than Julien Duvivier's earlier silent version of 1925, also named Poil de Carotte.　　The part of Poil de Carotte was played by 11 year old Robert Lynen, who was alleged to have been discovered whilst walking down the Champs-Elysées in Paris. Lynen is totally captivating and the film made him an instant star, launching what looked like becoming a very promising film career – until he was shot dead whilst fighting against the Germans in 1944.  Harry Baur, a legendary stage and film actor (who also died during World War II, allegedly at the hands of the Gestapo), also turns in a typically fine performance.  The reconciliation between father and son at the end of the film provides its most enduring image, enough to melt the heart of all but the most stoical of spectators.

　　The subject of Danièle Huillet and Jean-Marie Straub’s Der Tod des Empedokles (The Death of Empedocles, 1987) is the Greek pre-Socratic philosopher Empedocles (c. 490 BC – 430 BC), who lived in the Greek colony of Agrigentum in Sicily. His theories are mentioned in several of Plato’s dialogues. He maintained that all matter is made up of four irreducible elements water, earth, air and fire. A mystic and a poet, he is considered to be the founder of classical rhetoric. He is also thought to be the last Greek philosopher to write in verse; two fragments of his works survive Katharmoi (Purifications) and Peri Phuseôs (On Nature). An advocate of democracy, he came into conflict with his fellow citizens of Agrigentum and, as result, was banished with his young disciple, Pausanius. When he was asked to return, he preferred to commit suicide by throwing himself into the active volcano at Mount Aetna.　　The German writer Friedrich Hölderlin wrote two versions of Der Tod des Empedokles in 1798 and 1800, and a final third version in 1820, all three ultimately unfinished. They were conceived as five-act tragedies and all three differ in plot. According to Michael Hamburger, Hölderlin’s English-language translator,　　the main reason why Hölderlin finished no version of the play must be that he remained too closely identified with Empedocles, at the very period in his life when his own view of the poet as philosopher, prophet and priest – and as tragic hero – was subject to perpetual crisis and re-examination.　　Huillet-Straub’s The Death of Empedocles is based on Hölderlin’s first version (the longest of the three), whereas Black Sin is based on the third version.
